2013 Art is... of our land

.....................................................................................

Festival Manager: Kate Finnerty

The official 2013 Festival Program was launched 6 weeks out from the festival week on April 19th at the Horsham Regional Art Gallery. The launch was in conjunction with the opening of You carry it with You, an exhibition investigating the idea that our experiences of the Wimmera, its vast sky, rivers, lakes and open plain, are carried with us wherever we go.

We partnered with a number of other organizations to present events throughout the Art is...Of Our Land Festival. The Festival Family Fun Day was a great collaborative event that involved the Wimmera Health Care Group and their Blue Ribbon Bike Ride, Wimmera Uniting Care presented a Touch of Awakenings; an all abilities art workshop and the Wimmera Catchment Management Authority launched their Yanga Track book. Other partner organizations included the Wimmera Branch of Rural Australians for Refugees, Wimmera HUB, NEXUS, Laharum Olives and Arapiles Community Theatre.

We had a large Workshop in Schools program involving 5 schools and 3 private dance schools, over 300 students took part in workshops in lantern making, circus, music, theatre, body percussion and dance.

There was also a large music program including 8Foot Felix, a Melbourne based band but with a local boy on saxophone. This event at the Commercial Hotel was very successful and has prompted us to ask other local musicians that have left the region to come back home for the festival and play. Watch this space! We also featured some buy in shows including comedienne Peter Helliar, musicians the Audreys and the latest play from Richard Franklin called the Brady Bunch.
