Art is...at the water’s edge
The 17th Art is Festival has changed dates. Mark it down! From now on the Art is...Festival will take place every Queens Birthday and June and the week leading up to it.
2012 June 1st – June 11th.
This year we will be responding to the 2nd theme in our three year plan:
- Under our sky
- At the water’s edge
- On our land.
The 2012 Art is…at the water’s edge will celebrate the return to life of the Wimmera River through the activation of the Wimmera Mallee Pipeline and the 2011 February floods. The theme provides a broad pallet to interpret and allows great room for artistic expression.

A.R.A.B On Edge Promo from Anti Racism Action Band on Vimeo. |
 |
If you rap, sing, write, make beats, dance or play an instrument please consider participating in this unique performance opportunity.
Last year the anti racism action band (A.R.A.B) collaborated with the Melbourne Youth Orchestra and the Massive Hip Hop Choir and invited young players, vocalists, rappers and dancers of all backgrounds to help create and perform a new work- subUrban Exchange- a Hip Hop Concerto at the Melbourne Recital Centre.
There were 70 performers on stage and it was awesome!
We intend to take this concept to Horsham and further develop the work with the young artists that live in the Wimmera. If you would like to expand your artistic horizons and develop compositional and performance skills you may well be interested in taking part in this exciting project and participating in a series of workshops that will culminate in a live performance on the long weekend in June 9th – 10th.

Art is… is committed to the development of new art that directly responds to our unique environment and that resonates with our community. We are committed to supporting the acknowledged artists and creative producers who live in our region, as well as supporting the next wave of artists and creative producers that make the Wimmera their home.
Future Present is an artistic mentoring program funded by Regional Arts Victoria and Arts Victoria where established members of the Wimmera arts community will support and guide the development of projects that harness the emerging talents within our community.
We are asking for expressions of interest for an emerging artist/arts project to take part in the Future Present program. Participants will receive a budget of $2000; this will include artist fee, project materials and production costs. Any medium will be considered, visual art, dance, music, animation, theatre......... You will be mentored by an established local artist who will be supported by the festival.
