2011 Art is... under our sky

.....................................................................................

Festival Manager: Arlene McDonald

The Art is... under our sky festival dates were the 1st through to the 10th April 2011 - 10 day program, 23 events including 10 exhibitions that ran throughout the festival period.
The festival kicked off with a successful launch held 2 weeks prior to the commencement of the Festival, on the 4th floor of Horsham's State Government Offices, which was attended by around 120 people. This was a brilliant opportunity to promote the festival events with distribution of the program, event flyers and ticketed events available for sale, to all those who attended. The Festival was officially launched by the Mayor Counselor Michael Ryan.

The opening night event was Jeff Walsh and Janet McLeod's hilariously funny DVD style comedy act 'Cinema Fiasco'. This was followed by the premier performance of Flock on Saturday 2nd April. Other festival events as programmed were held in various venues throughout the Horsham CBD and Wimmera throughout the festival period.

The feedback on the festival overall has been very positive, with a lot of people saying it was 'very successful', 'can't wait until next festival' and 'how can I be involved'. The most well attended and successful performance being the Premier Performance of Flock, with in excess of 2,000 audience on the night.

This magical performance was an arena spectacular involving internationally renowned aerial performing arts company Strange Fruit, writers, performers, artists, along with around 250 volunteers, 130 children and many businesses coming on board to sponsorship and support. The performance told the story of how we live with corellas in our area - these noisy, swooping, deafening swarming birds. An all consuming nuisance. "Are they driving us insane or are we surviving together?"
