2005 Art is... A RIVER OF TIME

The Wimmera River became the key focus for this year's festival. The Festival Finale and Twilight River Parade were just two main events held on or near the River.

The collaboration between Bambuco and Y Space in producing the Forest on Sticks on the bank of the Wimmera River and the beautiful and ethereal "Bridge to..." bamboo sculpture was both a highlight and a consolidation of the years' theme.

Angie Polglaze produced a beautiful and enduring sculpture in Roberts Avenue using her adept skills with the chainsaw. She carved intricate and localised images reflective of the River and its environs on a magnificent stick of timber that was installed in Roberts Place.

In addition to the Polglaze pole, this year saw a flurry of totem pole construction. Totems were carved, painted, had additions glued, moulded and adhered. The poles were positioned in the round-a-bouts of Firebrace Street and led all the way from the commercial precinct down to the river. The School Workshop Program was huge. Workshops were held at the Nexus Youth Centre, which was officially opened and launched during the festival.

Exhibitions, displays and performances were all closely aligned to the wonderful river passing through our district.
