2009
Art is… tasty
When we make the statement what is tasty? A magnitude of different opinions create conversations and debate about defining what is good taste, what is bad taste and how one’s own taste can be defined as a consumer.
The 2009 festival, held from 27 March until 5 April, no doubt created many conversations and new statements as to what we present as taste. The festival was not a food festival, yet it focused upon the garden that creates the nourishment we require to sustain ourselves as a community. The art installation at May Park, Orchard in the Garden of Earthly Delight, celebrated our garden which is in turn our community.
One of the major highlights of the festival was a performance by world famous soprano, Yvonne Kenny, with Australia’s favourite tenor, Rob Best, and the Australian Scholars at the Horsham Town Hall. Well known chef and creator of the Kitchen Garden Foundation, Stephanie Alexander, was joined by local food producers who discussed philosophies and tips for growing bountiful produce from a backyard garden to broad-acre properties without much water. Australia’s funniest working mother, Fiona O’Loughlin, raised a laugh at the Wesley Performing Arts Centre on the Sunday night. The festival also took part in the launch of the Post Office bell sculpture. Horsham’s old post office bell was reinstalled as a sculpture created by leading bell expert, Anton Hassell. Other festival activities included a mandolin workshop and performance, Hip Hop performances from Adelaide dance artists along with a range of exhibitions at various locations within the region. |
