The land we walk is an ancient land. At the heart of Aboriginal identity is an understanding that the land The first peoples lived in harmony with this land, with it’s stark beauty and extreme seasons, this in turn shaped their cultural life. In this setting of traditional and contemporary cultural knowledge, and amongst the diverse cultural communities that have come to settle in the Wimmera, our attitudes, values, ideals and relationships are still influenced by the land in which we live.

Ceremonies and celebrations are reflected in our performance of life. Passed down through small customs they become a celebration of identity. The diversity of our heritage and social backgrounds reveal our relationship to the land, each other and the role of personal rituals in the making of our culture. The rituals in our lives, hunting and gathering, working the land, sowing, growing, harvesting and sharing in its gifts, connect us to place. There are many stories to tell. As we care for the land, under the ever watchful gaze of Djurite and Gariward, we share, learn and reflect on our communities stories; we add our voice to the layers of time.

This land we walk is an ancient land. Let us share in it.
