The 2009 Art is… festival is building momentum! Each year the changing theme of the Art is… festival offers a creative, artistic and community integrated program of events. The festival aims to promote independent, emerging and regionally based arts, culture and ideas.
The 2009 festival will present a diverse program exploring the theme of tasty, by sifting through the various layers of the construction and interpretation of taste within our society.
Program highlights include:
- Friday March 27, 2009: Festival opening night in May Park with the public launch of the Garden of Earthly Delight. Free music, entertainment, special performances and family friendly activities
- Saturday March 28, 2009: Internationally acclaimed soprano Yvonne Kenny and Australia’s favorite tenor Roy Best perform at Horsham Town Hall
- Children’s picnic at May Park with special guest, chef, author and creator of Stephanie’s Garden: Stephanie Alexander
Stephanie will also participate in a GreyMatters forum. - Exhibition programs at galleries, cafes, shop windows and beyond
- Performance program and various concerts of different genres with professional performers at Wesley Performing Arts Centre and other key venues
- Film evening with art house films exploring the theme: ie The Cook, The Thief, His Wife and Her Lover or Chocolat
- Youth forum including spaghetti westerns and food fights
- Major exhibition at Horsham Regional Art Gallery Reclaiming the ruin – the art of consumption
- What is good taste & what is bad taste – Adult’s only evening in May Park
- Morning Melody with Nougat
- Comedy night with Fiona O’Loughlin
- Opera & Olives evening, black tie dinner at Mt Zero Olive grove with seasonal produce from Grampians wine and produce growers, Saturday April 4, 2009.
The festival has a long history of delivering projects and programs utilising various art mediums to communicate its messages and themes. Everyone who visits and experiences an Art is…festival is provided with the opportunity to view and engage in something exciting, unknown and unexpected. No two festivals are ever alike, so mark Art is…tasty in your calendar as your special event.
